PARADIGMS OF LIFE

If we contemplate on our day-to-day life, we never come across something like life, as we always come across actions, which for most of the time is without rhyme or reason, with no connections, it is here that human mind accustomed with the habit of generalalising things performs an abstraction on our everyday actions by considering them to be a part of the larger stage, named as human life. We need to emphasize that actions in itself never contain in themselves any vestige of life as such, as their content is solely determined by the purposes that we have momentarily decided, actions is for the execution of the same. For example, I make a decision to watch a movie every Sunday, and I make it a point that I would only watch aesthetically crafted movies, now this decision of mine leads one of my friends to consider me as a person who wants to aesthetically design his life. The consideration of my friend regarding me is nothing short of absolute metaphysics, as my decision to watch sophisticated movies may very well be a result of multiple factors, and one of that multiple factor could be that I have fallen into love with a girl who for a very long time have been watching movies, which are artistic in their orientation, and now when I meet this girl, I want to exhibit that our likings are similar. The above elucidated example is a perfect case that how all aesthetic desires are mediated by concerns which are perfectly banal and sensuous, which leads towards an insight that any conception of reality, which we presume to exist in any single category is nothing short of an tragic oblivion . When we are faced with the question ‘What is Life’, we should never arrogate to ourselves the ability to answer it, rather we should modestly return the question by emphasizing upon all the plays of sensuality, which has occasioned it, with that we do not imply that nothing but sheer sensuality exist, as in that case life would become impossible, but that mysterious sensuality needs to be brought on surface, and thought, philosophy, art, should battle with it. Perhaps life is actually an endeavour where with all our intellectual resources we endeavour to carve out a space for ourselves an space, which is of pure contemplation, a space not besmirched by any sensuality. What that space would be, what that life would be are questions, which invite only abyss as an possible answer.

CAUSE OF DISCONTENT IN OUR LIFE

LIFE IS INDIVIDUALISTIC, RELATIVISTIC, CONTEXTUAL, COMPARATIVE AND SITUATIONAL.  THE ATTEMPT TO KNOW WHAT IS LIFE IS TO SUFFICE THE SORROW FROM THIS VERY LIFE. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING NEW WHICH I AM TRYING TO HIGHLIGHT BUT TO RESTRENGTHENING THE PREVIOUS EXISTING VIEW IN A NEW STRUCTURE TO INTERNALIZE AND INTROSPECT VISION OF THIS PRECIOUS LIFE. WHY I HAVE TAKEN THIS ISSUE FOR MY PRESENT DAY ANALYSIS, THE VERY FACT IS THAT ALMOST ALL PEOPLE ARE HIGHLY DISSATISFIED WITH HIS OR HER LIFE IRRESPECTIVE OF THEIR POSITION AND ASPIRATIONS. PHILOSOPHICAL ORIENTATION IS MISSING IN THEIR DAILY LIFE THAT IS THE ROOT CAUSE OF ALL THE PROBLEM. WE NEVER THINK THAT THIS LIFE IS TEMPORAL AND ALL MEN ARE MORTAL. ALL PROBLEM IS BECAUSE OF GREED NOT BECAUSE OF NEED. PEOPLE SHOULD FOCUS ON NEED RATHER ON GREED.
WE  KNOW ALL THIS BUT WE DONT CHERISH AND FOLLOW THESE IDEAS IN OUR DAILY LIFE. ALL HUMAN BEING MUST SPEND SOME TIME IN THINKING ESSENCE OF THIS LIFE. I HAVE OBSERVED THAT AS MEANS OF COMFORT IS INCREASING IN THE SAME PROPORTION TENSION IS INCREASING. THE LEVEL AND INTENSITY OF  DISCONTENT ARE INCREASING IN OUR DAILY LIFE. THIS IS BECAUSE WE COMPARE AND CONTRAST OUR LIFE WITH OTHERS. WE NEVER FOCUS THAT GOD HAS CREATED US FOR VERY SPECIAL PURPOSE. SO ALL PEOPLE CAN NOT BE SIMILAR. HENCE WE ARE DISRESPECTING THE VERY LAW OF NATURE. WE ALWAYS FOCUS ON OUR WAY OF  PRECONCEIVED NOTION OF LIFE RATHER WHAT IS SPECIAL OBJECTIVE BEHIND THE CREATION OF AN INDIVIDUAL BY T'HE GOD. THEREFORE WE DONT FOLLOW GOD'S PURPOSE OF LIFE. AGAIN THIS IS THE VERY CAUSE OF DISCONTENT IN OUR LIFE.

DAY Vs. NIGHT MODE OF DEVELOPMENT

Last night I thought to write something on the Day Vs. Night mode of development. This is a new  approach to overview the problem of rural development in the country. I am sure you would have not read such model of development ever before. The basic objective of the theme is to examine the functioning of institutions and  infrastructure at the site in the night e.g., Day Vs. Night or Rural Vs. Urban. This Day Vs. Night mode of development is due to spatial and locational aspects, which are as follows:

A)    Functioning of Health Facilities: Health facilities in rural areas are non-functional during night whereas it is operational 24*7 in the urban areas. This is called rural Vs. urban health infrastructure functional inequality. People of urban areas are more important  for the Government, otherwise it would not the case. Most of the VIP’s e.g., bureaucrats, leaders, industrialist, lawyers, doctors, etc., live in urban areas. Their life is more important than their rural counterparts. Even the more striking fact is that 72 percent of population resides in rural areas but approximately 80 percent of the health facilities are located in urban areas. So to cater the needs of the 28 percent population 80 percent infrastructure have been built up whereas for 72 percent of the population it is only 20 percent or even less than that. Furthermore, a villager has to spend more to avail the same health facilities as of Urban counterpart. He has to spend some money on the transportation cost to reach the district headquarters for availing the same health facilities. All the way a villager has to compromise in terms of money expend on health and extra time to get the equal facility like an urban citizen. This is ridiculous. I am sharing this based on my own knowledge of primary survey which I conducted to understand the major problems of rural India. A person may have to die for a very simpler reason like fever, food poisoning, snake biting, diarrhea, dysentery, etc. Leave the fatal disease like heart attack, blood pressure, etc.; in that case they are mentally prepared to end their very life. In the surveyed area, out of 20 villages there is no hospital which operates in the night. Let me disclose one very important fact in this regard that my village has the third largest hospital of the district which is of no use. Because it is non functional and non operational fully even the day time. It has capacity of 200 beds and can accommodate 1000 patients but the infrastructure is unused.  Doctors don’t want to stay here in the night time and the reason is but obvious it lacks infrastructure like electricity, transportation in one hand on the other they can’t run their own private clinic which is more profitable venture for them. Alone more than ten people have died in my village due to very simple disease like fever and above mentioned reasons. My own Tai ji (Elderly Mother) died because of snake bite. I don’t know to solve this problem, which is part of basic amenities. This is the village of ex-UP chief Minister Late Shri Bir Bahadur Singh, in spite the infrastructure is developed authorities are not taking interest to make it operational. A minimum effort from the government may ensure the functioning, since infrastructure is ready. Only enforcement part is missing. I hope in near future Government will take appropriate steps to solve these issues, otherwise I will take this issue to Supreme Court of India.

TRUE MODEL OF DEVELOPMENT

I always think for realistic and true model of development in the country consciously or even unconsciously. After sixty years of independence we are unable to find the exact suitable model for country like India. This always pinch me to think and think for our countrymen. Most of them are in very vulnerable conditions hence they cant even think for such kind of notion. Being the part of civil/knowledge society it is our responsibility to lead this movement in all forms of the development for the masses. I am surprised that even the government of India has taken immense measures as well as state governments are fully participating in the developmental activities: eventually, they are insignificant to address the problem like poverty, infrastructure, illiteracy, health facilities, drinking water supply, gas connections in rural areas, etc., I have made primary survey of five villages including my own village, the experience i will share in my next blog. Which will give you an idea how to look at the problem as well as my focus will be on how to solve these local level but very basic day today need based issues?

Development and Underdevelopment

Development and underdeveloped are highly contested topic. A definitional change and modification in the paradigm is just not enough to fulfill the goals and aspirations of citizens.  Several attempts have been made to formulate the strategies for sustainable and balanced development for the India and world as well. The basic problem starts with the conceptualization of plan formulation and with its implementation. In my opinion inclusive development is quite possible if government really start formulating and implementing the programmes from the tier third that is from villages. No doubt in India we have Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and they are functioning well but without any substantial outcome e.g., these are the institutions which promotes corruption at the gross root level. What i am trying to highlight that the cause of regional inequality is in the development process itself viz., why there are only six hour electricity supply in villages of India whereas twenty hours in the urban areas? Why roads of urban areas are better than the rural areas? Why government institutions always being created in urban areas? By choice government creates all facilities and infrastructure weak or substandard in rural India. A plethora of evidences can be traced to prove that the government by willingly creating regional disparity in India. I do not know how the urban people are special in comparison to our rural counter part and why there is double standard in our country. Unless the people of rural parts will not get equal opportunity there is no possibility of inclusive, suitable, sustainable, integrated, balanced and above all justified development in our country. Since independence it is a notional and idealistic concept and they will remain idealistic if our approach will not change for holistic development.   

What is life?

Life is contextual. It can not be generalized. Every determination would be negation for life. Therefore one can not enlist the objects of life. In fact, life is a balance way of everything. In my life time I took the opinion of a number of people from all age group but no one is able to remark conclusively on this particular issue. Life is not what you have lived or aspiring for but it is what you are living.
